Q. Is it ok to give my dog probiotics for people? my 9 month old puppy has been on antibiotics for various infections for the last month.
is it ok to give him probiotics?
and if so, can i give it to him while he's still taking antibiotics?
"You can also get acidophilus capsules from health food stores and..."
You can give your dog activia or another live culture yogurt because this has beneficial bacteria. You can also get acidophilus capsules from health food stores and use them for dogs by either giving the dog the capsule or breaking it open and pouring the contents over their food. It's a good idea to do this, but ask your Vet how much acidophilus to give your dog as well as when you should start giving it during the course of antibiotics your dog is taking. Some antibiotics don't react well with foods high in calcium, like yogurt, so ask your Vet so you start it at the right time and use the right product. Also ask your Vet about putting a few tablespoonfuls of Apple Cider Vinegar in the dog's water bowl. (if a large bowl).

Q. Probiotics and dogs.? i let my dog lick a pan we served a rotisserie chicken on tonight and he has wicked gas... i can give him acidophilus for digestion right? i don't want him to have diarrhea... for humans i know you can't o.d. on probiotic supplements, it cant be different for dogs.
"Probiotics wont hurt but they may not..."
Probiotics wont hurt but they may not help...they work more with the digestive process and less with the gas aspect. Supplementing your dog with yucca may help more where the gas is concerned. Nevertheless, if you choose to use either one, it should be on a regular basis. Hope this helps

Q. Does anyone know of a good probiotic for dogs? my dog has a very sensitive stomach i have heard that including a daily probiotic in your dogs diet can help this. i am just looking for people that use probiotics for their dogs and what is the best kind to get.
"When my dogs have been on antibiotics..."
Plain yogurt with live bacteria cultures is easy to give with every meal. I only use beneficial bacteria (probiotics) when my dogs have been on antibiotics, at times of stress like illness or vaccines or when they have diarrhea and I buy Benebac. It comes in little tubes and is easy to have on hand in this form. Petsmart sells it. It is not very expensive, I think I buy a package with 5 tubes for under $5.00.

Q. Dog probiotics? i am thinking of putting my dog on probiotics. he is a 5-year old pomeranian and gets an upset stomach frequently. what brand of probiotics should i put him on?
Prozyme is a good brand.

Q. My dog will probably need antibiotics for a possible bacteria in hus gums, what probiotics should i use? so the inflammation and redness is probably from bacteria. either from food or something he ate outside or daycare. it's very strange, he's super healthy and now he has front gums that are bleeding and sensitive. i know the vet will probably want to start him on antibiotics, so what probiotics can i use with him? he's 1.5 years old and otherwise healthy. thanks in advance.
"Diagnose what is causing the inflammation -your dog may have an abscess and need..."
First you need a vet to diagnose what is causing the inflammation -your dog may have an abscess and need a dental or tooth removal.
Infections like this are very dangerous, can spread infection throughout the dog's body.
Get him to a vet, find out what the problem is, and get the poor dog some professional help, not guesses on a site like this.

Q. Dog section. probiotics? ok, i asked this in yahoo groups rawfed dogs, but no one answered. this was a few hours ago, so i'm asking here.
"> ok, i got some refrigerated probiotics today from the health food store. i
told the employee what i needed, and she showed me like 20 kinds. i was
baffled. i told her exactly what was going on, and she told me to get now 8
billion acidophilus & bifidus. anyone have any luck with these?
>
> also, she first took me to the room temperature probiotics, when i told her
that others have told me the refrigerated ones are better. she then told me she
didn't see how, because apparently they aren't refrigerated when they are
shipped. ok, so, if that's the case, then why bother refrigerating any of them?
>
> thanks to all who answer. loraine fleeman."
the probiotics are for my dog to help build up her immune system again. only people knowledgeable on this subject please answer. thank you.
because she was on antibiotics and recently got off of them for gastroenteritis. my dog has allergies to processed stuff, and my mom unknowingly allowed her to eat two dog biscuits a day before she showed signs of being sick. people on the rawfed section told me to start her on probiotics.
they told me to do that for a couple weeks.
anyway, she got gastroenteritis as a result of the biscuits.
and i'm not tding anyone.
they said the refrigerated probiotics stay alive longer when refrigerated as they are live cultures.
".i prefer the refriderated probiotics and i feel they stay fresher for a live culture..."
.I prefer the refriderated probiotics and I feel they stay fresher for a LIVE culture. However, for optimum stability and shelf life, it is suggested that products containing probiotics and certain amino-acids (Digestive, Probiotic, Intestinal Support and Stress Support) be refrigerated.
In general, microbes survive better at lower temperatures. However, technologies for keeping probiotics alive at room temperature have been developed by product manufacturers. It is not necessarily the case that refrigerated products will be superior to those that are not refrigerated. Choose products from reputable companies that are labelled for viability “through the end of shelf life” and not “at time of manufacture”.I guesss it's just a preference I feel that to me is likely to be fresh..It's just that I prefer to have the live do it's job right away instead of another pill to process in our bodies.
