in that case you`d have to leave it in longer than usual to make sure its well settled; if you mistakenly take it out too early then you`re most likely to end up with either an improper dye, blotches, or a seemingly burgundy color you may havent intented for...speaking from recent experience.

Stay away from anytjing with warm undertones (by warm I mean yellow, gold, red or orange) So If my hair was a brassy orangish color I would look for a level 5 or 6 brown ash brown I would say medium ash brown bcause ash has cool undertones (no warmth) so goodbye brassiness:)

Yes, creme developer and shampoo can lighten your hair . In fact volume 20 creme developer is used by many people to lighten their hair color .

Yes, you can use volume 30 or volume 40 hair color developers in order to lighten the color of your hair. Volume 40 is a bit too strong , hence use it with care .

I once used H and S to strip colour off my hair when I died it too dark by accident. I did take some of the colour off without hurting my hair. The lady at the drugstore recommended it to me.

If you have black hair and you want to go to a color that is level 5, you may need to use a bleach, to lift the pigment from the black hair. 40 volume peroxide will add the pigment (the color you`ve selected) to the hair "faster". When coloring black hair without lifting the color (bleaching) you shoud only go 4 shades lighter. The volume of the peroxide depends on the hairs` porosity.
