"In order to recover your body from the affects of antibiotics..."

In order to recover your body from the affects of antibiotics, you need to take probiotics and also you need to pay a proper heed to your diet and make sure that you are taking a proper balanced diet after and during the antibiotics course. Although, recovery time depends upon factors like age, gender, medical history, type of antibiotics taken etc, but roughly speaking, for a normal person, it takes not more than one week to completely recover from the effects of antibiotics.

    This answer closely relates to:
    • Time to recover after antibiotics
      • Does your body recover back to normal after taking antibiotics?
      • How long does it take for the stomach to recover from the effects of antibiotics?
      • How long it takes to recover from antibiotics stomach?
    • Body recover from antibiotics
      • How to help the body recover after antibiotics?
      • How long for body to recover from antibiotics?
      • Will you body recover if you don t finish antibiotics?
    • Infections body to recover
      • How long does it take your body to recover from antibiotics?
      • How long it takes to recover from side effect of antibiotics?

    Q. How long will it take for me to get over this kidney infection?
i was recently hospitalized 4 days for a kidney infection that spread to my blood. i had no symptoms except extreme fatigue and was acting abnormally to family/friends. i don't remember most of what i did/said the days leading up to the hospitalization, so i was pretty sick, but never "felt" sick, just tired. i was released monday last week, finished my antibiotics on friday, and during my follow-up my dr sent me back to the hospital because i couldn't eat or drink, where they did blood work and found that the infection was gone, and i just need to give my body time to recover. yesterday was the first day i was able to eat anything and hold it down. i'm extremely nauseous and woke up with the worst abdominal pain and throwing up again. just wondering if anyone has any idea how long it takes to recover from an infection that spreads to the blood. my symptoms are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, stomach pain, headache, and dizziness. i've been taking it easy and despite being extremely nauseous, i have managed to drink plenty of water and clear fluids throughout the day this week or else i know it's back to the hospital for an iv.

"Likely due to the fact that the antibiotics wiped out your normal intestinal bacteria..."

your abdominal symptoms are likely due to the fact that the antibiotics wiped out your normal intestinal bacteria along with the infection in your kidneys. Suggest you either eat live culture yogurt three times a day, or get some probiotics from a supplement store to replace the bacteria you need for normal digestion.

    Q. How long should is too long for my cat to recover?
my cat had two intestine/stomach surgeries in a week because of foreign bodies. her last surgery was on wednesday (today is sunday). she came home yesterday. she went to hide in a quiet place, and has been pretty much sleeping ever since. she has a feeding tube placed in her esphogus so we can feed her and give her the antibiotics and pain medicine through it. she is not eating on her own. is this to be expected or should i be worried at this point? when she left the hospital yesterday they said she was in good condition, with no fever and they weren't concerned for her anymore. now i am panicking and scared to feed her through her tube because i'm scared of making her sick. i can't tell if she's lethargic from her meds or because she is not recovering well. does anyone know anything about recovery time for this type of surgery?

"People they know and that helps them recover..."

Your cat has had 2 major operations in a week so she's sure to be taking a while to recover. If she was a person she'd probably have been in Intensive Care after the ops and still in hospital now. Cats hate being ill as they feel vulnerable and they do like to go in a quiet warm place until they feel better. You are sure to be scared about feeding her and giving her medications,it's only natural but the vet must have thought you'd be capable of doing it, so have faith in yourself. Cats are happier at home rather than at the vets if it's at all possible as they like familiar surroundings and the people they know and that helps them recover . Each case is different so I can't really tell you how long it will take for your cat but I can say that if you are worried, phone the surgery, there's always someone there day and night who you can talk to and they'll have the notes about your cat and know exactly what she had done and how she will be feeling. Don't feel a nuiscance to them, they'd rather you asked for help than be worried. It's awful seeing a cat ill I know, just try to stay calm around her and follow the instructions they gave you.I expect she has to go for a check up soon does she ? While there ask the vet about anything at all that worries you. I'm sure you are doing a good job ! I hope your cat is much better soon.

    Q. Strep throat recovery?
hi i have strep throat. i really can't afford any antibiotics right now. how long would it take for my body to naturally recover from it?

"The only thing to cure it is antibiotics..."

Strep is caused by the bacteria s. pyogenens. If you have this, the only thing to cure it is antibiotics. Have someone look in your throat with a flashlight. If they see "white or yellow" patches in the back of your throat or tonsils, then you more than likely have strep. If you don't have this it doesn't mean that you don't have strep though. True strep can cause heart damage if not treated. Gargle with warm salt water. 8oz water 1/2 tsp salt. DONT SWALLOW IT. This will help with the discomfort. If you are not better in 2-3 days or your throat starts to get tight, you will need to go to an urgent care/doctor/hospital. Doctor will be the cheapest. Generic antibiotics are cheap.

    Q. I have a question about mono?
i have been tired and exhausted for at least 5 months now, and i sleep less during the night and more during the day time. i also have missed a lot of school due to mono that i learned just today (from my doctor, who said i've had it too long to receive antibiotics) i've had it for 3-5 months. i have been trying to hang out with my friends as much as i usually do when i didn't have mono and it has been wearing me out. i'm just wondering if having mono for 5 months and getting little sleep while pushing yourself to run around with friends almost everyday after school is harmful to your body permanently, and how does one recover from mono, and long does it take?

"Antibiotics is not going to work in case of infectious mononucleosis..."

Antibiotics is not going to work in case of Infectious Mononucleosis. This is because the disease is caused by virus and not bacteria. Pain killers may be needed and rest for a month or so is necessary. Also for a period of 2 or 3 months after recovery some patients often feel weak, depressed or very sleepy. I agree five months seems to be rather long, but you are still within the post recovery phase. I hope you will soon feel better.

    Q. 4 year old repetitive chest infections, how to avoid antibiotics?
my 4 year old daughter has had so many chest infections i've lost count. last year she had pneumonia at christmas time, and so now when she has a chest infection the doctors (and myself) tend to go for antibiotics for her. she's had 2 courses of antibiotics already over the christmas (for chest), and now... here's the chest infection back again. she has a temperature (not a very high one but i guess 38 celsius), and the usual coughing, nose blocked... i'm always weary of waiting too long before taking her to doc because of pneumonia last year, but i want to try and wait a few days this time. i feel like enough is enough with the antibiotics, and incidentally, her father and myself are just recovering from (possibly swine) flu, so we can't get out to the doctor (i can get doc in though if she gets too bad). i have a warm steam vaporizer which really helps, but doesn't "stop" the infection of course. any tips on home remedies, any experience ? don't want to be waiting for it to turn to pneumonia again, but also i do want to give her body a chance to try and fight this on her own. thanks note : she's been vaccinated for swine flu and what she has is not what hubby and myself had at all. she has no aches and pains whatsoever, her cough is mucousy, no headache... just your usual chest infection. forgot to mention : i suspect since pneumonia she has a touch of childhood asthma, not really serious one, but there all the same, only not possible to diagnose for sure at that age according to docs.

"Please read it with a thermometer so we will shy away from misuse of antibiotics..."

it is very important to know if you have history of allergy in your family, both sides, paternal or maternal. good that you had mentioned also that" touch of childhood asthma" because this will narrow down to a probable asthma, why? 1st, you gave me a data of recurrent respiratory infection, secondly, that touch of childhood asthma, i want to know for family history of asthma and allergy. And, for documenting fever, please read it with a thermometer so we will shy away from misuse of antibiotics. Your vaporizer or nebulizer at home is of use, and may use short acting salbutamol nebulization at home, then bring immediately to a pediatrician or to pediatric pulmonologist to further manage your kid accordingly. Shy away from self treatment, it may aggravate the condition of your kid. This is a friendly advice from a doctor. Thank you

    Q. My dog has been bitten by a fiddleback spider, what do i do??
we live in maple ridge bc, one of our bassett hounds has been bitten on the nose by a spider. the swelling first appeared on sunday morning and has since progressed at an alarming rate. it is now thursday and her nose is completely worn away. at first her nose was covered with a black scab, but that has fallen off leaving her face swollen and raw. the bumpy swelling has moving to her tearducts and her long ears, which have also begun to ooze like her nose did before the skin broke. we have spent the whole week running back and forth from the vet's office but it only seems to be getting worse. i know that dogs have recovered with antibiotics and steroids and if the bite is somewhere else on the body, is there anyway that she will be able to recover from this???? i can't see her going through another week like this. does anyone have any advice???

"The hard part is keeping any infection down in her nose and face..."

the problem with this is there are no fiddle-back (aka brown recluse) in BC. if a vet is treating your dog for this,it may not help the dog. with your pet on antibiotics, she will be fine. the hard part is keeping any infection down in her nose and face. I'm sure it itches, and would be very prone to rubbing her nose. the swelling will go down in time. I know it must look bad, but just give it time, and keep up with vet visits.

    Q. What causes inner ear infection?
two years ago, i had gone to the doctor because i was feeling very nauseous and was feeling dizzy similar to car or plane sick and was given antibiotics and recovered. at the time, the doctor didn't really clarify how inner ear infection occurs. just mentioned that our "ears" keep our body balanced. recently, i began to feel dizzy and today i started feeling a bit nauseous and i feel tired just sitting on the couch. i'm in my mid-20's, a healthy person and hadn't caught a flu for a long time. can someone explain to me how inner ear infection occurs?

"Sometimes water can get trapped in the inner ear canal by either swimming or..."

Sometimes water can get trapped in the inner ear canal by either swimming or when you take a shower. The trapped moisture causes bacteria to develop which then creates redness and swelling of the eustacean tube (the mechanism for balance). Check the site below for more information.

    Q. Sleeping longer than usual- should i be worried?
i went to vegas and partied and drank and was exposed to a lot of second hand smoke.i did not touch anyone while i was there (lol) but i did play on a slot machine- which was pretty germy i'm sure. i do not usually party and stay out late so i got sick. it started off with a fever and a runny nose- then turned into congestion with a lot of mucous. i suspected that it was a sinus infection based on the symptoms but i never went to the doctor because i do not have insurance. the cold lasted for about 2 weeks and i was taking some over the counter medicine for congestion to help me sleep and help with the coughing. i stopped taking the medicine but i am still sleeping like 13 hours unless i have to get up for work. its been two weeks off the medicine, i still have a runny nose as well and i just got a cold sore today! :( to make a long story short- what i'm wondering if my body is still fighting the infection and this isn't going to go away on its own (like i need antibiotics). is sleeping for a really long time a symptom of something more- or is my body just slowly recovering and i just have to stick it out. to go to the doctor or not to? i guess thats the real question- lol. i went to vegas a month ago- so im not jet lagged (plus i only live an 7 hour drive away)

"Your sleeping so much because you're telling your body you need to sleep that much..."

Your sleeping so much because you're telling your body you need to sleep that much. As you said when you have to get up for work you can; which leads me to believe that your just stuck in a cycle of inefficient sleep. Try setting alarms in earlier and earlier times until you get back to a normal sleep pattern. I had the same problem, and would sleep for 10-12 hours every day; now I sleep for all of 4-6 and I sleep better in the smaller amount of time. Also, instead of using medicine to hinder the symptoms of your cold, why don't you take vitamin c supplements/ work out a little more each day to get the blood flowing. Noone NEEDS antibiotics, you'd be incredibly surprised what our bodies can fix when it needs to...
