Children should use probotics at least for three weeks, if it works then continue it for two months otherwise quit the use.

Q. Probiotics or formula switch? help!!!?
my son who is 7 weeks old has milk protein allergy (wheeze, reflux, blood &mucus stool, gassy, cranky) but he is thriving and gaining quite a bit of weight. was born 7lb 8 oz at one month he was at 10lb 9oz. we have had him on nutramigen since 2 weeks of age. some of the symptoms have subsided but we are still getting an occ. blood & mucus stool, gas & cranky and lots of crying unless he is being held and grunting . 2 weeks ago he had gross bood in his stool and doc sent it out for testing. the results negative on the cultures for infection or bacteria. so she believes we should switch formulas she recommened going to an amino based formula neocate or nutramigan aa. both are so expensive. but i read that probiotics may help so last night i ordered ther-biotics infant formula. and asked his doc if we could try this 1st before going to the amino based formula. has anyone given their child probiotics and seen an improvment in their child regarding the symptoms of mspi? if we do have to switch to neocate or nutramigen aa which one would you recommend? how soon after starting probiotics or switching formula should i see an improvment in him? i guess i am at my wits end on switching him because he seems so content and fine then he will just start screaming and crying (real tears rolling down his cheeks. i feel a little lost and not real sure about my decisions and my husband just tells me do what i feel is best but sometimes i just don't know what is best. so please can someone help me out with this. my 2 yr old daughter also had mspi and had to go on nutramigen but that seemed to work well for her and she now consumes milk. i also have a milk intolrence. i guess i might have passed it to them. just wanted to add that he also always seems sleepy. i know that's not a bad thing but could it be because he is pain and just wants to sleep or am i reading into things. i guess also my daughter never was a good sleeper during the day and i was used to a baby that was up all day long mostly. i guess i don't have a good comparison.

I'm sorry but I really don't know how to help you! My daughter was on Nutramigen due to allergy, but she is still allergic to milk and cannot have anything that contains it or she has a horrible reaction! I would speak with your doctor. He is the most experienced about all this!

Q. Toddler on probiotics?
my son visited a chiropractor in mid june for ear infection issues. he has been on 17-20 doses of antibiotics in his almost three years. he has tubes which have drastically reduced the amount of infections, but he still seems to get an ear infection every 4 months or so. anyways, the chiropracter suggested statring him on a probiotic supplement for children. he explained all the reasons, which sounded good at the time. my son was only seen by this doctor 3 times before i discontinued his care. i just didn't feel that he was confident in himself, which made me uncomfortable with his care. i have however kept him on the supplement.so my long drawn out question is this... is it really a good idea for my son to be on these? and for how long? i have been unable to find very much info about it online, and i am not able to get him into his regular doctor until the end of august. thank you so much for your help!!

well formula now has "probiotics" as one of the special features it promites. That is why I have chosen the type I did. I think if you have your son on something and it seems to be working for him, keep it up. Go to google.au and there is lots of info. Yogurt is supposed to be super good for you and its main feature is probiotic.

Q. Question for parents of children with milk protein intolerance.?
why did you suspect a milk intolerance and what were the symptoms? if you were breastfeeding, how long after you removed milk from your diet did you see improvement in your baby? i am trying to rule out a milk intolerance in my almost 4 month old who was diagnosed with moderate acid reflux based only on the symptoms i described to the pediatrician, which seem to just keep getting worse: very irritable, cries alot, seems uncomfortable alot, hardly naps during day, very restless and not much sleep at night, frequent short coughing spells, doesn't spit up much, gassy, eats frequently. she put him on mylanta up to 6 times a day, zantac if it gets worse, and told me to start solids at 4 months. since starting the mylanta 3 days ago, his symptoms have become obviously more severe, so we discontinued that. i have also had him on probiotics (not at the advice of dr.). i want to rule out a food intolerance, as that would obviously be the easiest to treat, i don't want to give zantac

"Continue to breastfeed as long as you can..."

My son had a rash on his chin, a red rash in his diaper a few days later, and infrequent bowel movements. A 4 month old should not be having milk products or any food at all except human milk. Continue to breastfeed as long as you can, for the baby's best health.

Q. Unbearable vaginal dryness and now burning pain during menstruation. is this "no big deal?"?
let me start by saying i already have been to my gyno for an annual check up and she did not seem concerned about the severe vaginal dryness i was having. however, i had a bacteria infection at the time so maybe she just didn't believe me as to how dry it actually gets. the bacteria infections were a problem for a while as a result of a weakend immune system from lyme disease. (i am on antibiotics for the lyme and many probiotics, and don't think those are the cause because this started well before the antibiotics.) now a few months later, i am still having this problem and i am beginning to realize this isn't getting better and it's not how i want to live! my vaginal area has been completely dry for months. i no longer have a sex life because it is painful, even if i am lubricated, which seems almost impossible. when i say dry, i mean it literally has no moisture what so ever all day long. i don't even have an odor. it gets sore during the day as i walk around. i have gotten in the habit of using vagisal cream, because sometimes it does feel itchy. sometimes right before my period i get what feels like a in-grown hair lump on it, but more on the inside, not where a ingrown hair would be. that lasts a day or so and goes away. since i am not sexually active, i'm pretty confident it's not an std. then for the last two months when my period comes i feel burning and stinging in that area. soap makes it sting and wiping is painful. if i wasn't bleeding because of my period, i would think i was cut or something. there is nothing i can see on it that would cause this. the vagina itself just looks very inflammed. so, as far as the dryness goes, could that cause the lumps and soreness i was referring to and can anyone recommend what to do, if anything, cuz my doctor didn't seem to think it was a big deal. and is this thing that's happening during my menstrual cycle in anyway normal and maybe something common that i just have never experienced before, or should i take another trip to my doctor and insist i am having a problem? i am a 30 year old female with no children and i have been on the pill for many many years.

get a 2nd opinion.

Q. Sleeping through the night...?
i have a 5 month old little boy, it's now 9:41. i put him to bed at approx. 7:30. he's already been up 4 times. i've tried the soother, feeding, letting him cry for a few minutes, and rocking back to sleep. finally the rocking worked...atleast for now. he used to be up 2-3 times a night. for about the past month and a half he's been up about every 1-2 hours. he's exhausting. how long should i expect a child his age to go without feeding at night (he's exclusively breastfed). he's on prevacid for reflux (although it's a recent prescription (within the last week) and i'm pretty sure it's not doing anything, so it's probably not reflux). i've also tried probiotics to help regulate his digestive system as he seems extremely gassy. any advice/suggestions?

Q. Why don't i notice fertile cervical fluid even though my opk is positive?
i'm no stranger to opk's and ive had a blaring positive today (where all the dye is almost stolen by the test line) i am ttc my 3rd child and used to get very obviously thick stretchy ewcm at ovulation time but since i contracted bacterial vaginosis i dont see it anymore, despite the positive opks i treat the bv with probiotics (oral) and folic acid as antibiotics don't actually cure it - its an incurable disease and i hate it but i'm wondering if it's affected me so badly that my cervical fluid is no longer fertile also, i wonder (cuz the symptoms are always slightly there) whether oh's sperm even make it past the cervix if the bv bacterias get to them first :( can anyone explain why it is that i can have a clear positive opk, cramps where my ovary must be [ive always had ov cramps, sore nippes and tender boobs] yet nothing but a thin milky (bv) cervical mucous:( instead of the stuff i'm used to seeing at ov time @ hope: thank you!! i totally forgot about preseed :) lets just hope it doesn't affect my lactobacilli colonisation lol (apparently the good bacteria in the vagina can help to eliminate bacterial vaginosis)

I have cycles where I sometimes don't get EWCM or I don't get a lot of it. My doctor says it's normal for CM to fluctuate each cycle. I'm not sure about the infection and what issues it may or may not cause but have you tried using Preseed? It takes the place of EWCM for those who don't have enough. GL!
