Answer is provided by a lic. Cosmetologist of 10 yrs. Ten volume developer is generally used to deposit color. It has very little lift. I would suggest using 20 volume. Also take into consideration what you are trying to lift. You have to pay attention to your base colors within the color you intend to use. Sometimes when lifting a brown you can end up with reddish undertones. If hair is already blonde and you wnto lift to a lighter blonde, depending on your hair`s undertones, you could end up with undesireable results. Undertomes are the colors you see in your hair if you were to step outside in the sunlight and see shimmers of other colors, such as gold, red, and/or copper. If you have black hair and you want to go to a color that is level 5 , you may need to use a bleach, to lift the pigment from the black hair. 40 volume peroxide will add the pigment (the color you`ve selected) to the hair "faster". When coloring black hair without lifting the color (bleaching) you shoud only go 4 shades lighter. The volume of the peroxide depends on the hairs` porosity.

I advice it would be better if you take help from a professional hair dresser bu going to a proper hair saloon . The people there are experts and they would mix the level 6 hair color with level 7 as per your specific color requirement .
