IVF & Insurance We r trying for a baby since 4 years.Did all tests & 3 IUI. But failed. Now we wanted to try IVF. But our insurance company doesnot cover IVF. what r the options we have?
Does any insurance company pay for IVF? What would be the total cost for IVF in US?
Any suggestions,please ?
Thanks
IVF and Insurance Insurance for IVF depends on which state your employer is and whether they offering you this as a part of employee benefit.
For IVF procedures -- $10000 (inclding monitoring, blood work and Egg Retrival and Embryo transfer also for freezing your extra embryos for upto 6 months).
ICSI - $1500 (if there is male factor)
Medicines -- $3500 plus
So it cost around $15000.00 per cycle
insurance hi aian,
1)u will be covered by the insurance because spouse will be included in the policy.u being already pregnant or not does not matter.
2)i am not sure abt the cost of ivf etc but there r several insurance policies like cobra, aetna, bluecross, nba, etc.
now u can check what each policy covers and then decide which one u want to choose.however i guess pregnancy is covered by almost all the policies.but u will have to check whether it covers the full cost or some part of it like 50% or so.
hope this helps
IVF without insurance Hi friends,
I would like to know if any of u have done fresh IVF or frozen embryo transfer without insurance and how much did it cost u.I am in the US of A.My insurance covers IVF,FET,ICSI etc etc only till june 2004.
US insurance policies hi,
I am a 31 year old woman, currently based in Mumbai, India. We are planning to move to the US (in the next couple of months) since my husband has a job opportunity there.
Some history --
We have been trying for a baby for the last 8 months, and have been undergoing follicle scans in mumbai. I have had surgery for fibroid removal ~ 2 years ago, and also had a laproscopy done to check my tubes about 4 months ago. The laproscopy indicated one blocked tube which was opened during the procedure. In the eight follicle scans that i have undergone, only 3 resulted in a ruptured follicle, others were cystic follicles. The doctor says that its possible (although not necessarily) that my the blocked tube has got blocked again. We may try an IVF soon.
My questions:
1) If I do get pregnant (*hope*) before our move to the US, will I be covered for insurance through my husband`s med insurance policy? Or will there be an issue since I am already pregnant?
2) What kind of coverages/costs could fertility treatments like IVF incur?
Appreciate any advice based on experience, hearsay from friends/family in the US ..
thanks

about IVF Hello Aarti,
Your problem is same as my. i to am going for a IVF this month.
Were are you residing? I am from Pune, and going through this treatemnt, from last 3 yrs now, but unfortunately there no success.
also i think do these test
Laparoscopy
hysteroscopy
FSH,LH ,PROLACTIN ,TSH
blood tests for rubella,hep.B,HIV
ultrasound of pelvis
semen analysis
Also in this i dont remember the test but it is also very important to no if the eggs we reproduce during ovulation are strond enough, the way motility of spermas are checked, even our eggs have to be checked, i am going for this test this month, but you can ask your Doc out there for this.
Or You can serach the web for Pune Fertility Center, and email them about their problem.
This can help you in some way, yes but there is no insurance coverage for this even i asked my doc if i had mediclaim for it, but this problem does not come under mediclaim, it is very difficult getting it.
So this is what information i am having, please do feel free to reply to me if you have any problems.
Wouyld like to talk to you, since we both are sailing in the same boat.
Bye

IVF/PGD in India Hi Sathya,
Sorry to hear about your losses. I too had 2 miscarriages within 9 months. the last one was in April 2005. Since then I haven`t been able to conceive since then. Infact in my case doctors haven`t given me any specific reason for my losses or my inability to conceive. Myself and my DH were also thinking about IVF. We are in the same boat as you are, our insurance doesn`t cover any of these procedures, so we were thinking about going to India.
If you can forward me any information you might have collected so far for IVF in India I would really appreciate.. By the way what is PGD procedure?
IVF Qtn.. To Archie n all After HSG it was found one tube is completely blocke and the other one is narrow. My GYN reffered us to a specialist. My husband`s semen count is 48million.Its compatible for fertility.but Dr.said its low considering my HSG.So probably our next step will be IVF .I dont know.Do any of u have any idea. Our medical insurance will conver only $10000 for infertility. So we r planning to take a secondery insurance. That will cover upto$100,000. Do any of u have this kind of insurance for infertility treatment? Do anybody had done IVF here in US? I have gone thru a thread where some of u girls r planning to go to India for IVF.Is this bz of the insurance problem ? I`d really appreciate all the inputs. Thanks and good luck to all of u in TTC
For Kshama2, IVF in India Hi Girls,
I am a silent reader of this site. I also faced problems in conceiving. I live in US, and our insurence didn`t cover IVF cost. But IVF was the only way we could have a baby, so we decided to get it done in India. It cost us around $2200 including the medicine and procedure cost. (In uS it can cost anywhere between 10K- 20K). By God`s grace we got pregnant and now I have a 8 months old healthy baby boy.
So if you are not in such a financial condition where you can shell out 10K or more, the best option is to get IVF done in India.
Yu can come back to US in second trimester and deliver the baby here with your husband.
I hope my experiences can help you.
Good luck,
Nidhi
Info needed for IVF Hello Friends,
I am a silent reader of this forum.I need some information for doing IVF in US.I am looking for good financial plan for IVF as my current insurance does not cover for fertility treatments.we are planning to go for Shared Risk refund plan which costs abt $21,500 with (3 fresh and 3 frozen cycles ) a 70% refund if patient is not taking baby home of all 6 cycles. However, Medications,pre-IVF office visits and early pregnancy u/s monitoring are not covered in this, which may come around $4,000 per cycle(I am not sure).
I am very concerned abt How risk it is and how the treatment is going to be...Anyone has taken / planning to take this financial plan ? If you come across any other better plans please share that . And i want to know how IVF is being done....And how much time needed between firstcycle and second cycle if first cycle is failure....
Please share the information so that it would be very hepful to choose a better financial plan so that treatment cost wouldnot create any stress.
Thanks

Questions about IVF hello everybody...
i`m 28 years old and my husband is 32.we are trying for baby since last one year but no luck.
we visited Fertility doctor and he did following exams:
Sonogram
HSG
Sonohysterogram
and later he did blood test on DAY 3 and he said that my FSH level is bit high.it was 8.he said that this is normal.
my husband semen analysis was good.
after all this tests he said everything is fine and says that we fall under Unexplained fertility.he said to go 3 IUI`s and later told to go IVF.as here in US insurance is not covering this we are planning to go india next month.
i just want to know the test which i mentioned above is enough or do i need to do more tests before going to india.
i want to do all the tests here in US and in india directly i want to go for IVF.i don`t want to waste any time in india.
can anybody give me suggestions regarding what test are necessary before going for IVF.
thanks a lot and all the best
ivf I stay in usa. so I am taking treatment here only..
Recommended IVF Centre/Dr in Northern VA kudos to you all who help the people in need. I am 30, trying for kids since 2 years with PCOS. Plan to go for IVF after 4 IUI failures. Live in Northern VA, US. Can any of you recommend a clinic or a doctor that is best here? The issue is I am not aware of any personal references and we have insurance coverage upto 10k. So I want to spend that wisely. Please help if any of you or your friends have been to a dr and had
success. Thanks much.
Medical Insurance 1. Medical Insurers are in business to make a profit and thus they aim to
pay out less than they take in premiums.
2. From my experience over the last twenty-five years in medical insurance
schemes the amount of my claims will be around what I have paid in
premiums.
3. As we get older the cost of medical insurance increases exponentially due to
age increases and annual inflation.
4. There is always the concern that a claim will be rejected particularly if for a
condition requiring major (i.e. expensive) treatment.
5. From the foregoing points I conclude:
1) Medical insurance is at best financially neutral as the amount in paid in premiums is likely to be more than that paid out for treatment.
2) Medical insurance becomes punitively expensive with age.
3) There may be a serious risk that a claim for major/expensive treatment could be rejected.
4) As ?run of the mill? treatment is likely to cost less than the amount paid in premiums and there is a risk that major/expensive treatment may be rejected, there is no point in paying for medical insurance!
6. Also if one self insures:
1) If treatment is not required no expense is incurred.
2) The money that would have been spent on insurance could be invested to cover possible future claims.
7. We are in a position to
pay for treatment for most common maladies. If
however major treatment was required i.e. a heart transplant; major cancer
treatment etc possibly costing £30,000.00 plus, this type of treatment whilst
possibly being rejected by a medical insurer, may possibly be promptly
available and better administered by the N.H.S.
8. We could possibly ?jump the queue? by paying to see a specialist!
9. Is it possible to insure against major/expensive treatments?
