"But it turned ash gray..."

When dying your hair, all the chemicals from the dye mix up, and the outcome is not all the time the most wanted one. I understand that you dyed your hair, after bleaching, with brown colorant, but it turned ash gray. The best thing you can do is to apply a darker color now, or you may try some highlight stripes. Q. My hair turned gray after dying?
my hair was a dark brown and i dyed it "medium ash brown - revlon colorsilk" and now it everything but the roots is a grayish color, it looks like someone sprayed my hair with that hair color in a can that you can buy for halloween. what happened?? and how can i fix it??

"It will turn a grayish tone..."

Hi, that has happened to me too many times to count! Stay away from anything saying "ash", it will turn a grayish tone. Buy a dye that says "medium Brown" and make sure it is a perminant dye, otherwise it won't work. This will work for you, because it's worked for me thousands of times! =]

Q. Will toner help my at home dye-job that turned reddish which was supposed to put ash in my hair?
i've been dying my hair lately at home because i've been dissatisfied with colorists who never could get the red out of my hair, even after more than a year later. i had one stylist make my hair burgandy and then brighter red with crazy highlights of blonde and pink. she never told me that red was almost impossible to get rid of. my hair is naturally near to medium ashy brown with blondish/ reddish natural highlights. i permanently dyed my hair with dark ashy brown and that pretty much worked but then the red started showing over the weeks. i recently dyed it medium ash brown and it is even more red than before. what do i do?? i hate the red. i don't want a mahogany brown color! will a toner help me?? should i stick to non-permanent color? originally, i started coloring my hair because i have premature graying hair (well, actually-only white!). my first colorist never told me in the beginning that she was putting permanent color in my hair! i'm not going back to the salon.

"If you have another color on your hair and you put..."

ok at home color is very scary. if you have another color on your hair and you put another color on you are just layering color after color. color won't lift color. a toner could help, but you should do it professionally other wise you will end up with a huge mess. color has a base tone. if you want to get ride of red you need a green base. you might have to mix a few colors so that you will get it right. the developer has a lot do do with how your hair turns out. in box kits your get 20 and it will lift when you want to deposit.

Q. Hair turned grey/purple/silver when i dyed it blonde!!?
i used garnier nutrisse extra light ash blonde hair dye. i know i'm an idiot and i shouldn't have done it at home, but i did and i need your help to fix it. i probably will go to a salon to fix it, hopefully they can help. my hair is naturaly a very dark ash blonde...really dark. (for blonde) when i was little i was towhead but it just kept getting darker. well i decided to dye it a really dark red (looked awesome =d) i did that for about 9 months then i got bored with it and wanted to go to a really light blonde color (not quit platnium but really light towhead) so i first wanted to get all the red i could out of it and i used color oops (yes i know...stupid) lolz i didn't know it was only for right after you colored it. anyways it turned a copper color (ugh) i went to a salon and told them what i wanted, they said bleach all over my head wold ruin it so i should just do highlights of bleach to help get the red out. well that made it a light copper color :( i waited all summer then i went to sallys and used quick blue bleach. that worked well, my roots had grown out and now it was stark white where the roots were, the ends were a yellow color (ugh) i used toner (towhead)...turned it grey but faded over a couple weeks. so then on i wanted to let my hair rest. i spoiled my hair with a hole bunch of conditioners and crap. it became healthy again=d but my hair had grown out like an inch and a half and the blonde was now bananna yellow again and some of it still orange in places (im okay with that ;) so its been four months since i bleach/toned it and i wanted to do my roots and tone down the yellow. i wanted something that wouldn't completly ruin the condition of my hair so i asked around and they said garnier was the heathiest. so i looked up online what the lightest shade was and it was extra light ash blonde (white choclate). okay i died it.....it turned gray were the yellow was...and copper on my roots. i don't mind the copper i'll just dye it again with the same dye and then hopefully it will be the right color. my only problem is the grey...i know it'll fade...but to be honest i don't want to wait. is there anything that will help fade the gray? anything besides stripping the color or dyeing it a darker blonde (i don't want it darker) like anything natrual? you know, food. thank you for listening, it was really long(sorry). that dye that i used didn't dry my hair at all, it actually conditioned it. i'm big on hair treatments and deep conditioners and other crap. my hair is spoiled. lolz but then again it kinda has to be with all the crap it puts up with. oh and all these things i did to my hair were very long in between. i didn't just go here than there than do this and that. i let my hair take long breaks ;) yes i know i should go in to get it fixed and i probably will but i just wanted to know if i could do anything to help move the fading process along. just so its not so gray anymore. like anything natrual? but i understand going in would be best. sorry..none of that was ment to be rude lolz also im homeschooled so i don't shampoo my hair very often.

"I would normally tell you to try bleaching it again..."

I feel like it'll fade out naturally over time. I would normally tell you to try bleaching it again, but at this point you've just done so much to it. I bet it probably feels like bubblegum when it's wet, right? That stretchiness when it's wet is going to make your hair get weaker and weaker and start breaking all over the place, which is just as bad as having it fall out. What you're gonna need to do is to cut off as much as you are willing to part with, and start conditioning the hell out of it. Don't shampoo it more than a couple times a week, but still shower and use conditioner in your hair anyway.

    • Does dying your hair darker repair breaking off?
    • How long should you wait to shower after dying hair blonde?
  • Coloring after permanenlty dying my hair
    • Will i get weaker after stopping cellmass?
    • Is your natural hair gonna go back after bleaching?
    • How long after coloring hair should roots start showing?

    • What time do you roots of the hair start growing?
    • Does hair fall out right away bleaching?

Q. Used extra lite ash blonde dye and it turned gray! need help fixing it?
i've been dying my hair every 4 to 6 weeks and i wanted to get the yellow tint out of my hair so i bought loreal hair color- extra lite ash blonde. which was a bad idea, unfortunately. my hair's a bit gray-ish now, with a blue tone. i really want to change it now- and i don't care if i'm damaging it or whatever if i color it tomorrow or something. my question is- how do i get my hair to look less gray? ha. no gray and a warmer blonde. my skin tone is best with cool colors, but i'm not going to dye my hair any type of "ash" blonde anymore. i don't really want to go to the salon, so i'm wondering which brand/color i should use. thanks in advance for your replies. bew c- yes, my roots were starting to show and i wanted the yellow out, so i decided to try a different brand and go lighter. i had like an ultra lite blonde color on before. so nice n easy wouldn't be a good idea? because i've only used loreal once and so far i haven't been very pleased with the results, haha. what about revlon?

"Who home-dyed her hair from black to blond and her hair turned green and..."

Girl, if you don't want to go to a professional salon then try a hair school, which will be cheaper, if there are any in your area. It sounds like you're on your way to frying and damaging your hair and it's not worth it. I worked with a girl who home-dyed her hair from black to blond and her hair turned green AND fell out! She lost a lot of length within a few days, and she had no choice at the time, but to wear her green hair out. The green was the weirdest thing I had every seen, and did I mention her hair fell out? I mean, like she lost inches (plural) in length, and her hair was extremely short.

Q. Dyed my hair with ion color level 3. hair didnt all catch. went to salon for filler, and got too dark? help!!!
my hair used to e bleach blonde. i was tired of dying my roots, and breaking my hair. i also want to grow my hair out. my natural color is a dark dark ash blonde. but i dont want the gray color. so i decided to dye it a dark golden brown. the lady at sallys told me that i should take out the red.. and gave me this little pouch to mix in the hair dye. i put the whole thing in..and it did take all the red out of it. my hair turned out brown. i went to get a new set of clip in hair extensions..and realized that my hair was gray/green. i went to a hair stylist, and they put the red back in my hair with a filler, and used a step 4. i had hot red roots, so they put in some brown filler on the roots. now my hair looks nearly black. i was told that the filler is semi permanent, and that it will wash out and lighten up. i hate this color. its to much of a shock. my hair is damaged from the blonde. he said the damaged hair wont hold the color and it'll wash out. is my hair dresser right? help!!!

"He is right damaged hair won't absorb color like new hair..."

you should have gone with a neutral blonde instead. he is right damaged hair won't absorb color like new hair. that's why your roots took the color but the rest of your hair didn't. you will just have to wait to fix your hair i think otherwise you'll have it falling out from overprocessing

Q. I have a major problem with my hair? can someone help?
today i was stupid enough to die my hair into an ash color, basically i wanted to tone it up one level so i could still have a an ash tone. but it turned out horrible it went down two levels lighter. despite my bleached hair was already white. i felt at the the time there was a need to seal in the porous bleached hair so i used hair die. my hair turned out purplish gray! it was bad. so to get the purple out i used baking soda, it got it out but my hair was still gray literally gray! like old man gray white life less hair, and it is brittle on the ends. is there any way i can fix my hair in a few hours or get the humiliation of a life time at college. i got some $20 deep penetrating re constructor the brand of it is k-pak by joico i hope that stuff works. if anyone knows how i can get the gray out and reap air my damaged hair please let me know? otherwise the only solution is to wear a due rag all day at school tomorrow or in a few hours. can any one give me advise on how i can solve that problem quickly?

"You and look at the clip in hair pieces and see if any of..."

Ok--calm down and go look at your hair in the mirror. Now, is it really the end of the world? Probably so! I don't have a quick fix-and I have been in the same boat you are in. I went and got a wig--but I could have done things a lot differently and a lot cheaper. Also, get some mayonnaise and rub it into your hair and get under the blow dryer-hold the blow dryer to your hair so it will penetrate the hair follicles and cuticle. The heat helps retain it. You don't really need to do anything else to your hair at this point. It is probably so damaged by now it won't take the color. You can cut it and that will help some. Your ends are so porous now they will grab any color quickly and the gray will look worse than before. So, if all else fails, go to walmart and get some non permanent hair color. A little red will normally cut that gray ash lookin color, but you don't want to look like u r advertising early for Halloween. So, be very careful. There are several colors that wash in and wash right out. Try one of them--they are usually cheap. And, what about tying your hair up for a few days, and just wear a scarf or colorful ribbon and say, "Hey, this is the autumn time of the year, so I decided to be spiffy?" I know that isn't what you really want, but it beats losing or damaging your hair more. There are numerous hair accessories at Wal mart that are cute and sassy. Take a friend with you and look at the clip in hair pieces and see if any of them actually help your present hair color. I will be here at my computer working, so if you need me im me or e-mail me, and I'll help any way I can. My hair has been every color in the book, and I know how you are feeling! Good luck and God Bless u!

Q. Please help!! hair turning weird colors!?
my hair is naturally dark-medium blonde. however for the past 10 years i've always frosted it a really light bright blonde. for the last 2 years i havent done anything to it cause i'm tired of having to deal with it all the time. so i let it grow out. it is now dark-med blonde half way down then the rest is still bright blonde. so i bought hair dye closest to my natural hair color and tryed dyen just the blonde ends which are like 8 inches long or more. well it turned grey!! i usesd lorel' natural medium ash blonde. so i am thinking it was due to it being ash. so i just bought natural blonde with no ash. will it turn grey again?? how to get it to match the rest of my hair and stop turning grey??? plz. help! i plan on dying it again in a few minutes. so need answers or advice quick. thanks

"Or golds to conteract that gray....becareful...don't go orange..."

everyones hair reacts differently... but reds or golden tones conteract ashes and greens. sooooooo, if you have to stay blonde, i would definatly get a natural....or mabye even a natural golden light blonde or something of that nature....w/ the reds or golds to conteract that gray....becareful...don't go orange . use ur best judgment....either way, it's probably not going to turn anymore gray!! no more ash!!

Q. How can i dye my bleached out hair dark again?
hello, i have been dying my hair blonde for 10 years, and today when i was walking into the grocery store, i saw a lady in the reflection of the glass, and i thought she looked like a scarecrow head, because her hair was so fried looking. thing is, the "lady" turned out to be me! i couldn't believe how bad my hair looked! my natural color is a medium brown, with golden tones, and i have tried twice to dye it back. the first time i ended up with blackish blue hair, and the second it was like a gun metal gray. i have been using extra light ash blonde on my hair, can anyone tell me what color to use just to get it light-medium brown, without any red, (or worse any grayish color)? also, should i rinse it out in just a few minutes instead of the time on the box? the color seemed to take instantly the last 2 attempts. thanks, maggie

"Color your hair yourself at home from blonde to brown..."

Light blonde hair, especially DAMAGED light blonde hair is very porous which means it takes up color quickly that's why the colors came out differently than you expected. I would suggest using a leave in conditioner three times in the next week and then go get your hair done professionally at a salon. Don't color your hair again at home, you're just damaging it more because you don't know what you're doing. You're risking your hair falling out soon. And hair often turns green when you color your hair yourself at home from blonde to brown . I repeat, do NOT do it yourself! Condition it well and make an appointment with a salon that specializes in hair color. Bring them a picture of what color you want it too, or else you could end up with a color you don't like due to lack of communication. Medium brown with gold tones can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people you know what I mean?
