Q. What are current methods to measure serum vitamin d levels?
i have been reading a lot on vitamin d and its potentially wide impact on human health. i am wondering if there is any way people can measure their blood vitamin d levels without resorting to the clinical laboratory?

The only way to measure it with a lab test and this is usually carried out at a specialist reference lab. It is generally not tested unless you have symptoms of Vit D abnormalities.

Q. Does vitamin c serum really help reverse skin ageing when applied to the face?
if so , which brand is a good one to get? is there anything else i can use that has been proven to get rid of dark spots (melasma)?

"Vitamin c is one of the most widely used skin care ingredients..."

Vitamin C is one of the most widely used skin care ingredients. The variety of skin rejuvenation / anti-wrinkle products with vitamin C is staggering. Do these products work? Do their claims have any substance? The situation is a little complicated. On one hand, vitamin C does possess definite, scientifically validated merits for wrinkle reduction and skin rejuvenation. On the other hand, many vitamin C products do not work. Potentially, vitamin C can benefit skin in two important ways. Firstly, vitamin C is essential for the synthesis of collagen, a key structural protein of the skin. Adding vitamin C to a culture of skin cells (fibroblasts) dramatically increases the synthesis of collagen. Secondly, vitamin C is an antioxidant and can help reduce skin damage caused by free radicals. So, when vitamin C is properly delivered into skin cells, there is a good chance to reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture. A number of skin care companies offer highly concentrated stabilized vitamin C products, which (at least in theory) are supposed to be consistently effective. However, these products are usually quite expensive. Furthermore, even stabilized vitamin C products may be at least somewhat oxidized by the time you use them. When vitamin C oxidizes, it eventually acquires a yellowish tint indicating an advanced stage of oxidation. Interestingly, some manufacturers add coloring to their vitamin C products, in which case it becomes hard to spot advanced vitamin C oxidation. Whatever the motives for adding color may be, we recommend avoiding vitamin C products that aren't colorless or white. Unfortunately, the lack of a tint does not, by itself, guarantee the lack of oxidation because the initial product of vitamin C oxidation (dehydroascorbic acid) is colorless. Only further oxidation produces a noticeable yellowish tint. Therefore, when selecting a vitamin C product it is important to pick a trustworthy source and be careful about the expiration date and proper storage. i hope i helped a lot !

Q. Do you apply vitamin c serum to your face before or after moisturizing?
and is it better to apply in morning or evening?

before, i'm pretty sure. most moisturizers work as sunscreens too. you also always put that last.

Q. How are serum vitamin levels checked?
is there a "vitamin panel" that does a wide sweep of many vitamin levels or must 1 tube of blood be drawn for b1, b2, b3, etc oh yes and can these be checked in the er as easily as a cbc can be done

They can be done usually from one tube of blood, and they are pretty much an automated test like FBC.

Q. What's the difference between vitamin a and vitamin c serum and what does it do for your skin?

"Vitamin a supports the overall health of skin..."

Vitamin A supports the overall health of skin, it aids in the functioning and repair of skin cells. It is an antioxidant that can help protect the skin. Often used in acne treatments (Retin-A). Vitamin C which is also known as ascorbic acid, helps to support the healing process. It is an important vitamin needed for proper repair of the skin and tissues. Also helps fight aging and promotes collagen production.

i want to even out and lighten (or get rid of the tan of) my skin tone. i am confused with both products. do they each do the same thing? which one should i buy or should i buy both? thanks!

"However to you question vitamin c i would recommend out of..."

If you want to even out your tan and lighten it i suggest a whitner aswell. there are alot out there. However to you question vitamin c i would recommend out of the two as i have used it. it helped even my complexion. helped soften and prevent pimples. its a great product. make sure you use a good one though. i would go vitamin c its got better long term effects.
