Q. Can baking soda cause a receeding gum line?

Baking soda can actually help with the treatment of receding gums as it can cause a decrease in the secretion of acid in the mouth. Your mouth can benefit from rubbing a paste made from baking soda and water along the gum line. It is always best to seek advice from a professional but sometimes waiting lists are long and pain is now. Anyway to reduce the acid is good as a lower acidity level is better for protecting exposed tooth roots.

Q. Is there anything i can do for receeding gums?

You can undergo gum grafting surgery to cover tooth roots by using tissue from the roof of the mouth. There are new procedures today in the form of a tissue regeneration procedure developed at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine which reduces the pain and recovery time.

Q. How do i cure receeding gums i have tried everything?

"Irfan..."

you should try some hydrogenperoxide h202 1% as a mouthwash remedial medicine which currently seems to be the best alternative. gums only recede because some bacteria prevents your gums from growing normally . try also having plenty of sodium ascorbate vitamin C 500 mg as twice a day should give good results in 5-6 days .secondly dont brush up and down and over aggressively .rather side ways and gently with a soft tip brush would do it good . irfan

Q. I'm 25 and have receeding gum under one tooth that needs surgery how can i treat this until the surgery? ?
i can't afford oral surgery right now at all i've been prolonging getting my wisdom teeth out and don't have any dental coverage. i have one tooth that isn't loose at all but needs the gum line surgically repaired. it has receeded to the point of exposing too much of my tooth and may cause further problems. i don't want it to get any worse. how can i treat it until i have the means to get oral surgery? is there any otc product that will treat this issue. i've been flossing more rigorously and i brush and rinse often. it's not sensitive and it's not sore.

Sensodyne Toothpaste is good for sensitive gums.

Q. How to treat gum disease when i've just had wisdom teeth removed?
i had my wisdom teeth removed last tuesday 16th and immediately after on the next day when i began my salt rinses, there was blood when i rinsed and pain, but i assumed this was blood from the area where one tooth had been removed and pain from the area which i thought was normal. today when i was brushing my teeth (avoiding areas where my wisdom teeth had been removed) i noticed blood and it was coming from two of my teeth on the bottom, to the side of the front of my mouth. the gum looks really red, with little raised bumps, the teeth are painful and the gums are inflammed and sore to the touch. i'm assuming it's gum disease as i had it before and it was exactly like this. i'd say it's probably at its beginning stages, the gum hasn't started receeding yet etc, it didn't hurt until after i'd had my wisdom teeth removed (it's about 3 teeth along from where one wisdom tooth was removed) andi can't get a dentist appointment for another two weeks so i need to try and get this under control until then. my question is: how do i treat the gum disease? i'm not meant to rinse with anything other than salt water, so can't use corsodyl mouthwash which i was using before. i'm brushing regularly, salt rinsing after meals and every 2 hours like the hospital told me to, avoiding eating solids, and using corsodyl gel only on the area affected. anything else? please help, i am so scared my teeth could fall out!

Don't worry at all, gum diseases " periodontal diseases" are usually chronic " slow " and would not lead to the loss of your teeth so rapidly. Corsodyl, in general, contains chlorhexidine which is an antiseptic. However, it was proved that it delays wound healing and therefore, you are not meant to rinse with it but just with salt water. The best way to control the gum disease is to brush regularly and be careful to the following : 1. avoid just the area of extraction " the removed tooth" 2. don't apply too much force 3. brush the gingiva "gum" with the teeth together "if you don't know exactly how ask me 4. even if the gingiva bleeds ignore it and go on ! in 5-7 days you will notice that the bleeding has disappeared completely, unless the disease has progressed too much

Q. Needing advice on management for advancing gum disease, can't get an appoint with a periodontist until next
year. my gums don't bleed and are not sore but receeding of my gum line is dramatic. can't afford proposed treatment (have had 2 opinions, one with a periodontist and another with a dentist that uses laser machine) so far spent approx $600 and still no treatment. has anyone successfully treated gum disease with natural products? did root planing/scaling make your gums receed further?

gum disease can´t heal by it self, it has a period when it stabilize but then it continues to destroy more bone and more gum tissue, scaling and root planing stops the controls the problem but not necessary cure the disease. Q. Any dentists out there - receeding gums - can this be treated?
i have a new dentist (private and expensive). she has examined my teeth and told me that i have receeding gums that needs to be treated otherwise i may run the risk of losing teeth from poor gums. this treatment is going to cost me about £400 and i'm a bit worried that it's just a way to get money out of me. i used to see a hygienist at my "old" dentist who has never mentioned this and always told me i did a great job of looking after my teeth so i'm a bit worried. the new dentist said that if i don't get it treated i risk losing teeth from gum disease in the future. the new dentist is from a very modern, flashy dental spa (you know the kind that concentrate on whitening, straightening and cosmetics rather than good old fashioned dental treatment). i'm not sure that i want to pay out for some fancy treatment. hope someonecan advise me? thanks kernow lady. it makes me wonder if all this fancy treatment is necessary. in her estimate it just says "supportive peridontal therapy fluoride treatment".

If you have periodontal disease you do need treatment. But you can also have gum recession and not have gum disease. It may be a natural part of aging, it may be bite related, or it may be caused by improper brushing. If any of these are the cause, then you have to correct the thing that is causing the recession. The gums will not grow back but they will not worsen. The only way to restore the lost gum is to do a graft. These are only done in severe cases, are expensive, and have a guarded prognosis. If you think you may not have gum disease, you can get a second opinion. good luck.
