When you dye your hair blonde you should use a bleacher first of all, no matter what color your hair is but definitely if the hair is dark color. Now if the hair looks ashy, you should do bleach it until you get off all the color in it and dye it blonde afterwards. Having this procedure in a saloon would be a great plus. Jack Russel

"Never do blond yourself..."

Never do blond yourself!! Really what you should have done was, gone to the store, and bought a stripper, now you have to go to the hair salon to buy this. It is blue and comes in a package or a tub, depending on how much hair you have. okay, then you put that on your hair, it will strip all the color of your hair, basically platinum blond, then you put the blond color on it. thats just to redo it though, if you are trying to tone down the orange, go to a hair place, like one that sells dye, and such and ask them for a toner, or just walk in and they will just eyeball your hair and tell you what you need. Q. Natural instincts hair dye! i have ashy blond hair dying it "medium brown". will it turn out good?
i guess you aren't supposed to dye your hair this dark with natural instincts because there's no option for how it will look on the box. has anyone with light hair done this with natural instincts? i just want to know if it's going to be weird looking for some reason...? also does anyone know how drastically it will fade? thanks. i've dyed my hair many, many times...including from really light to really dark and vice versa, i'm just curious as to if this certain brand turns out differently.

Usually when dying your hair darker and you have light colored hair...it will turn out pretty good. When people with dark hair try to dye it lighter...that's when it looks funny. You should be fine ;)

No, I dont think it will work. Think about it like crayons, if you start with brown, & add yellow...what do you get? Darker Brown. Try bleaching it if your that concerned about the color, & than add the shade of blonde you want to use. Bleaching WILL dry your hair out & could cause damage. You can however go darker than your current color with sucess & less damage.

Yup, you should go to a salon, but since you can't, here's my advice: Ash blonde will take out the goldeness. You should get your mom to start by putting it on the top (roots) of your hair first where it's most golden and leave it there for 5-10 before working it down to the ends, because that way it will be on that part for longer than the bottom (which you don't want to go too ashy).

i've heard from family members that i can get my hair color stripped since each time i've dyed it, it either fades or turns an ashy dark blondish color when it's supposed to be lighter. we realized that i have red pigment in my hair, so i want to get it stripped because in june i want to dye it light blonde on top and black underneath that. i'm worrying about whether my hair will turn a weird color like orange or pink, or if it will fall out. i have dyed it four times in the past, in 5th grade i used sun in and got highlights, in july of 08 i dyed it light blonde but it turned orangish, then in november-ish i dyed it dark brown, it faded in a few weeks, then in january i dyed it back blond, but again it turned orangish! no matter how i dye my hair, it messes up. my parents don't want me to get it professionally done because it costs too much, if i got it done professionally, would i have to not get my hair stripped, or would they find another way to just dye it light blonde without stripping it or damaging my hair? and i live in north carolina in an area with not many big cities, just little ones, so it's hard to go somewhere to get it done good, except virginia, but they might be really expensive, like virginia beach or suffolk i am close to. if i did get my hair damaged, what kind of conditioner and shampoo would i buy to fix it? thank you, please answer it someone! :)

bleach it. i do it myself. my hair was really dark black (dyed) then i bleached it then dyed it. now it's auburn. the color i wanted. my friend goes to this lady it's a really inexpensive salon and they bleached her brown hair to a light blonde . if you go to an expensive salon they most likely won't bleach your hair. i live in a big city and they've never done it for me. one more thing please don't do the blonde over black it looks so weird. 2 of my coworkers have the blonde black combo and they regret it.
