You should go to a community counselling agency as there are very good psycologists and affordable as well. So you can get a solution of your problem there.

Q. How long does it take to become a lawyer or phycologist?
i am in 9th grade and want to become a phycologist or a lawyer . so what are some good classes for each individually? also how long would it take to become a lawyer or a phycologist? thankyou, any help is appreciated.

Lawyer, takes seven years of education in total; four at undergraduate level and three years of law school. Then you will probably take 6-12months after you graduate to study for the bar exam. A psychologist takes four years of undergraduate studies followed by four-six years for a Ph.D. or Psy.D and then about two years of supervised experience. Once you graduate, you must then pass the written license exam.

Q. How can i tell my parents that i want to see a phycologist?
i feel really bad and my life is really messed up. i want to go see a phycologist because i don't want to talk to my parents about stuff. how do i ask them if i can go see one because they are always on about how "parents are your support system and you need to discuss things with them?" please help me because i really don't want to tell my parents all this stuff and i really need help (and we don't have a school counseller or anything)?

"Ask them that you would like their help in selecting a psychologist who can..."

You explain to them that you feel overwhelmed by any number of things that are happening in your life, and you ask them for their support in helping you grapple with it all. You then ask them that you would like their help in selecting a psychologist who can work with you and them. What you need to do is ensure that your parents feel they are supporting you and that you aren't rejecting them. You do have to find a good psychologist or psychiatrist who can help you while keeping your parents generally informed (it need not be specific) about your concerns and how he/she feels you are progressing. As long as your parents feel that they are playing an important role in your treatment, and it is extremely important that your parents offer their unconditional support to you. If they can't, or if they insist on being your sole system of psychological assistance, then they are acting egotistically and selfishly. Bear in mind that they may so no at first. If they do, then you need to find an alternative. It may be that you can call The Samaritans and get some free counseling or a referral to a free counselor/social worker. It seems clear that you need someone to listen to you, and help you sort out what is a real problem and what isn't and what you can and need to do to manage or resolve these problem issues. What you may not fully appreciate is that by simply asking for help, as you are doing, you are demonstrating the sort of maturity and self-awareness that bodes well for your eventual treatment. The most difficult part of getting a handle on your life is the desire and willingness to do so! In that sense, you are far ahead of those people who do not want to understand and improve themselves. Keep at it with or without the support of your parents. You will find a knowledgable and caring adult who will listen to you, but it may take some more hard work on your part. Good luck.

Q. What do i do if i want to be phycologist?
i am currently 15 and i want to be a phycologist but i don't know what i should do to get more into it. are there any classes in school that help?

"If you do indeed mean phycologist..."

Phycology is the scientific study of algae. Phycology is a branch of life science and often is regarded as a subdiscipline of botany. If you do indeed mean phycologist, and not psychologist, then you need to study biology, ocean sciences, chemistry, and math. If you meant psychologist, then the hard sciences aren't so important, but math and statistics and so on would still be a help. It's also good to take the social sciences, psychology, sociology, etc.

Q. What are the best a levels to take to become a phycologist?
i'm in year 11 and picking my a level options. i would like to become a psychologist when i'm older! the ones what i've choose not for definite yet, are : psychology, maths, biology and english lit. i know people say take ones what you enjoy, but i do not mind taking these subjects :) it's just if i don't become one, i will need good subjects to fall back on. help and any advice please :) xxx

"Maths because that will be a great help seeing as how interlinked a lot..."

Well, I had the same choices originally and they are all pretty good. I'd advise you to take Sociology instead of Maths because that will be a great help seeing as how interlinked a lot of aspects of the two courses are. I have a friend who took Sociology and she said it helped a lot. If you take Psychology, Biology and Sociology, then you can take anything you really want to take for your last option because you have the foundation that you need to make a good psychologist! What's most important is if you work really hard to get grades that stand out from the thousands of other Psychology applicants :-) To help your chances, try to get some Psychology related work experience as this can be a great help for Psychology students.

Q. What do you need to be a phycologist?
i like helping people with thier problems. especially mentally. i want to comfort them and make them better. i want to change thier perspective and outlook on life. will i be fit to be a phsycologist? what other things in me do i need to be one besides education, i just want to know what i should be when i grow up and im not sure. so what else would i need in me to be a phycologist?

First off, with all due respect Demolition Soldier, I disagree. A Master's in Clinical PSY doesn't make you a psychologist. To be a psychologist one actually needs a Ph.D or a PsyD. (which i am doing now). Also, a clinical counselor (MA degree) does some of the same clinical work as a Dr. (Ph.D. or PsyD) yet the comparison stops there... From what you've said my friend, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Counseling seem to be what you should be looking at. By the way a Ph.D. takes quite a few years (5 to 8 years + 4 years for your BA or BS), so start thinking about it.

Q. Im confused what is a psychiatrist , phycologist and therapist?
i don't get the difference but i want to study phycology ? please help me

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialized in psychiatry. Their main function is to prescribe medication, though a few hold outs do still conduct limited psychotherapy. A psychologist is a non-medical doctor (a Ph.D. or a Psy.D.) who primarily conducts psychotherapy (counseling), though they may be employed in a wide variety of other areas, as well. In two states (Louisiana and New Mexico), psychologists with the prerequisite training can now prescribe psychotropic medication. A therapist is a more generic term, and does not necessarily imply a specific credential or educational background. Most therapists are master's level mental health practitioners. For the most part, their degrees are in social work, counseling, or psychology. Good luck with your future educational endeavors, ~Dr. B.~
