Yes you can take the pills along with antibiotics but you can take drugs with antibiotics as they will counteract each other. So make sure that you are using tablets only.

Q. Did anyone who is taking birth control pills and antibiotics come out with a positive pregnancy test?
just curious becuse i've heard it is only for some paticular types of antibiotics and not all. i also am taking penicillin and am on the pill. want to know what are the chances of pregnancy to occur with no extra protection.

Antibiotics disrupt the normal bacteria present in your body that recirculate birth control hormones. When these bacteria are killed, the birth control hormones have no alternative means of transportation so they are not as effective. When on birth control and taking antibiotics, it is highly recommended to use another form of contraception to prevent pregnancy.

i was wondering if anyone knew if it was okay to take an allergy pill and antibiotics(doxycycline) within several hours of each other,because my allergies are killing me,

Q. Is it safe to take over the counter acidophilus pills while on antibiotics?
i have been on antibiotics for a long time and now have a yeast infection from taking the antibiotics. i used monistat for 2 nights and have one night left. i still have to take the antibiotics for another 4 days until my next doctor appt. should i take the pills or wait until the antibiotics are done? i did eat some yogurt.

yes it is. they are a great thing to take to help with the yeast infections. acidophilus is the same thing that is in yogurt. it is just in a higher dose. many doctors actual recommend it for women with yeast infections or reoccurring yeast infections.

Q. Do antibiotics affect bc pills during sugar pill week?
i am sick and on bc pills. i'm supposed to get my period this week (the sugar pill week). my mom is a nurse practitioner and thinks i need antibiotics because i have green sinus drainage. i know that antibiotics affect how you metabolize bc pills and decrease their effectiveness. is that true when you are on the sugar pills, or not?

i'm starting a three-day round of antibiotics to fight a uti. i am sexually active and know that antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills. how long after i finish the antibiotics is my birth control back to its maximum effectiveness? i have found multiple answers, ranging from three days to three weeks.

See if your pharmacist can tell you. I asked last time I was on antibiotics and was told that as soon as I finished up the antibiotics I didn't need to use additional protection. But the pharmacist was kind of wishy-washy on the answer so I think we took extra precautions for a full week after I finished the drugs.

I used to take antibiotics for months for acne. I was told that spotting would be a sign my birth control was failing. I was also told that after three weeks of taking the antibiotics, your body will build up a response to them and they would not effect my birth control. If you were taking an antibiotic for just a 10 days course, instead of the birth control being 99% effective, it is 95%. So, your call, maybe use a back up method until you have a period and are off the antibiotics. As for me, I never got pregnant and was on the antibiotics for a long time.

I was on antibiotics a few months ago. At the time I was told by the pharmacist that I needed to use condoms while on the antibiotics and for 2 weeks after finishing taking the antibiotics. It basically takes 2 weeks to get the antibiotics out of your system. So yeeah quite a while! Sucked like a pain in the ass at the time for me and my partner!

i just got over a cold and the doctor told me that the antibiotics she gave me will affect the effectiveness of the birth control pills i take. what is in the antibiotics that cause this? and how does it affect the pill?

Doctors will warn you that all antibiotics will decrease the effectiveness of birth control but as of right now only one antibiotic is proven to do so and that is Rifampin...Its not whats in it that makes the birth control stop working its the effect that it has with the estrogen in the birth control...Im not exactly sure on how or why it interacts with the estrogen but I posted two links for you to check out where you can read more...and remember just because all antibiotics aren't proven to decrease the effectiveness doesn't mean that they cant so while you are taking antibiotics use extra protection.
