Well your hair color will become so messy if you have different color of roots and different color of your lengths so get your hair treated by professional hairdresser.

Answer is provided by a lic. Cosmetologist of 10 yrs. Ten volume developer is generally used to deposit color. It has very little lift. I would suggest using 20 volume. Also take into consideration what you are trying to lift. You have to pay attention to your base colors within the color you intend to use. Sometimes when lifting a brown you can end up with reddish undertones. If hair is already blonde and you wnto lift to a lighter blonde, depending on your hair`s undertones, you could end up with undesireable results. Undertomes are the colors you see in your hair if you were to step outside in the sunlight and see shimmers of other colors, such as gold, red, and/or copper. Of course, 40 Volume is just that, it is very invasive,and you will get a lifting result, however, results can not be guarenteed. If you dyed your hair dark brown yet the roots are lighter and reddish, it means the roots did not change colour and are not matching the rest of your hair. This could be fixed by getting a root- touch up to make your roots the same color tone as your hair . After the root-touch up your hair roots should match your hair ends. Also a re-dye of the root is not such a bad idea.

If your hair color has turned to dark after you dyed your hair with ion hair color , then you can use a volume 30 or volume 40 hair color developer in order to lighten the color of your hair .

you should do it again once more time on the ends only with 20 volume, you can try 30 vol, but i dont know how ur hair condition is, if u have go0d hair then go ahead and do it with 30 vol, but if u see ur ends are not not healthy do it with 20 vol. try not to touch ur roots, just apply on the parts where u see is darker.

Matters on the hair color you have- if you have dark hair and want to go blonde- to real light blonde you would use a Vom 40-50 and if you want to just dye your hair you would use Vom 10 and sometimes 20 now if your hair is med- and want to go dark you would use 20 though... I have dyed my hair light blonde and white a lot so this is something that I would know. You want to always make sure though you do use the right number of VOM though. If you go to Sallly`s hair place to buy the VOM- you can always ask them to help you out and they will tell you which number of VOM you would want to be using. Level 10 of developer is used to color your hair from a lighter shade to a darker shade while the level 20 and 30 are used to color your hair to a lighter shade . Hence , you can use level 10 developer to dye your hair dark brown .
