Do people who have had antibiotic treatment for H. Pylori usually lose a lot of weight that they have trouble gaining back after treatment? - My upper abdomen caved in and I lost about ten lbs. on the extreme round of antibiotics (First Amoxycillin and Clarithromyicin, and then within a couple days Metronidizole and Tetracyclene) for H. Plyori. three months ago. My upper gut (above my navel) caved in and I lost ten pounds from diahreah overnight. The diahreah went away. My left side though to the left of my navel developed an area that feels like it gave out somehow from the antibiotics. I alternate between pain, weakness, spasms and a feeling like I`m struggling for air that somehow is radiating into my chest possibly via my hiatal hernia (which I never had real problems with before the anitibiotics). I was very thin all my life but I have been eating and eating a fairly nutritious diet including daily nutrition drinks with lots of calories. My body is not responding. I am not gaining ANY weight and I am feeling very bodily weak. I am now extremely thin. I am worried because I feel like I may be starting to have weakness and loss of tone in my muscles. I had a breath test and was told I got rid of the H. Pylori and have since had CT and MRI scans and a colonoscopy. The only thing found was slightly enlarged adrenal glands which my doctors do not seem concerned with. My doctors don`t know what to tell me. They are suggesting a bacterial overgrowth test but I don`t know what to think anymore. Any suggestions? Do people normally lose weight during antibiotics that they cannot gain back after antibiotics? Is it normal to feel extremely weak for months after antibiotic treatment? Is it normal for the upper gut to feel and look caved in after strong antibiotics? Can antibiotics leave a specific area in the intestines permanently compromised? Has anyone else experienced these symptoms after treatment for H. Pylori?
