Is it possible to overdose on probiotics? i recently started taking the dannon yogurts w/ probiotics each day. the instructions say to take them for two weeks to regulate your digestion. i thought it would be a good thing to try for my ibs. i have been taking them for a month and sometimes have two a day. am i putting my health at risk?

Q. Is probiotics 50 billion too much to take for my age? i am 37 years old, and i have been on numerous antibiotics in the past year. i get sick with colds, etc a lot. a friend of mine recommended i take probiotics every day to get the good bacteria back into my body. when i went to gnc last night, they told me i should take the 50 billion one. is that too much to take every day? i don't know much about this product, so any input would be greatly appreciated. thank you so much.

Do you know what I could possibly put inside that brownie? Maybe I put something to prevent you from having children, or make your hair from falling out?
Maybe I added something, in a long run, to make your teeth all fall out?
But, you'll eat it anyway, because brownie is your favorite food! Make sure you research anything you take, and it's got the FDA approved logo. They're there for a reason, to save the consumers.

Q. I've had digestive issues for years so i take probiotics daily, but can one take too many probiotics in a day? i've tried many different brands but none has helped much at all. i'm currently using garden of life's primal defense. the instructions on the back of the box says to begin with 1 capsule a day and then gradually increase to 1 capsule 3 times per day. i've already worked up to the 3 a day, but even this amount hasn't helped with my digestive issues much (the issue is chronic constipation). i've gone to see several doctors, including a gastroenterologist, and they haven't found anything wrong so i don't know what else i can do to get rid of this issue. here's a list of what i've tried or am trying to get rid of it:
- garden of life's primal defense (3 capsules daily)
- i've cut out all dairy, wheat and sugar - this is something new i just started a little over a week ago
- no fried foods
- i drink lots of water a day
- i exercise 4 times a week (walking on treadmill or turbojam)
- i've totally cut out junk food
- i snack on popcorn, fruits & vegetables only
what else can i do

Q. How long to use probiotics? i like using probiotics to repopulate the healthy intestinal bacteria that die off when antibiotics are used.
but my question is, how much and how long does it take to really put things back in balance? i know that a sign of balance is no yeast infections and good digestion... but those things, for a woman, can also be dependent on the monthly cycle, stress, etc. some people use probiotics every day; that's fine too, but i'm curious to know what is necessary to replenish and get your system balancing itself out again.

I really can't add much to whats already been said. I have a chinese herbalist friend who swears by a probiotic a day, whether it be in pill form, natural yogurt or keffir.
I follow her advice on this and have seen remarked improvement on issues I was having with my stomach due to anxiety.

probiotics is for everyone!! you should always be on them if you are on antibiotics too. im sure they are good for menstrual cycle too : ) but you dont have to take them everyday...maybe like 1-3x per week and eveyday if your sick or think youre going to be getting sick. i hope that helps!

Your intestinal system contains a natural balance of probiotics already and does from birth to death. These probiotics drinks/pills/etc are basically to try to top them and to help maintain your body's digestive system, but they are quite largely a con as one of these portions of probioic drinks contains ~5m bacteria in them but only a few tens of thousands are able to survive the hugely acidic environment of your stomach to get into the slightly less acidic gut system. As long as you live healthily and maintain your own body's balance of vitamins and minerals they should always be able to maintain the balance itself.
