Q. Does anyone from southern michigan know of any nursing homes that pay for you to get a cna certification?
i am looking for nursing homes in southern michigan that pay for you to become a certified nurses aide see i was a care taker at my last job but i didn't have to be certified so any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If it is like where I live most of them do. There is such a shortage of help. If not you may just need to ask. They might make arrangements to pay for the class if you agree to stay and work with them for a certain amount of time.

Q. What happens to someone's personal belongings if their nursing home care is being paid for by the state?
my grandmother is currently in a michigan nursing home and the state is now paying for her care since all her savings has been used up. we are trying to confirm what will happen to her personal belonging once she passes away. will they become property of the state? if so, what will the state then do with these belongings? she has several antiques and family heirlooms that we would hate leave our family or become the states property. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

"Intestate estate..."

Michigan law has a specific transfer if there is no will: § 27.12101. Intestate estate. Sec. 2101. (1) Any part of a decedent's estate not effectively disposed of by will passes by intestate succession to the decedent's heirs as prescribed in this act, except as modified by the decedent's will. (2) A decedent by will may expressly exclude or limit the right of an individual or class to succeed to property of the decedent that passes by intestate succession. If that individual or a member of that class survives the decedent, the share of the decedent's intestate estate to which that individual or class would have succeeded passes as if that individual or each member of that class had disclaimed his or her intestate share. MCL § 700.2102 (2000) MSA § 27.12102 (2000) § 27.12102. Share of spouse. Sec. 2102. (1) The intestate share of a decedent's surviving spouse is 1 of the following: (a) The entire intestate estate if no descendant or parent of the decedent survives the decedent. (b) The first $150,000.00, plus 1/2 of any balance of the intestate estate, if all of the decedent's surviving descendants are also descendants of the surviving spouse and there is no other descendant of the surviving spouse who survives the decedent. (c) The first $150,000.00, plus 3/4 of any balance of the intestate estate, if no descendant of the decedent survives the decedent, but a parent of the decedent survives the decedent. (d) The first $150,000.00, plus 1/2 of any balance of the intestate estate, if all of the decedent's surviving descendants are also descendants of the surviving spouse and the surviving spouse has 1 or more surviving descendants who are not descendants of the decedent. (e) The first $150,000.00, plus 1/2 of any balance of the intestate estate, if 1 or more, but not all, of the decedent's surviving descendants are not descendants of the surviving spouse. (f) The first $100,000.00, plus 1/2 of any balance of the intestate estate, if none of the decedent's surviving descendants are descendants of the surviving spouse. (2) Each dollar amount listed in subsection (1) shall be adjusted as provided in section 1210. MCL § 700.2103 (2000) MSA § 27.12103 (2000) § 27.12103. Share of heirs other than surviving spouse. Sec. 2103. Any part of the intestate estate that does not pass to the decedent's surviving spouse under section 2102, or the entire intestate estate if there is no surviving spouse, passes in the following order to the following individuals who survive the decedent: (a) The decedent's descendants by representation. (b) If there is no surviving descendant, the decedent's parents equally if both survive or to the surviving parent. (c) If there is no surviving descendant or parent, the descendants of the decedent's parents or of either of them by representation. (d) If there is no surviving descendant, parent, or descendant of a parent, but the decedent is survived by 1 or more grandparents or descendants of grandparents, 1/2 of the estate passes to the decedent's paternal grandparents equally if both survive, or to the surviving paternal grandparent, or to the descendants of the decedent's paternal grandparents or either of them if both are deceased, the descendants taking by representation; and the other 1/2 passes to the decedent's maternal relatives in the same manner. If there is no surviving grandparent or descendant of a grandparent on either the paternal or the maternal side, the entire estate passes to the decedent's relatives on the other side in the same manner as the 1/2. § 27.12105. No taker; effect. Sec. 2105. If there is no taker under the provisions of this article, the intestate estate passes to this state. Get her to do one.

Q. Is my work required to pay me for being on call?
i work at a nursing home in michigan and we have been at low census for a while now. because of this this they are making us be on call on the days we would normally have worked. some people have to take 3 on calls a week. should i be compensated for this time. i work 3rd shift so when i am on call i have to sleep for half the day and be up all night even if i don't get called in.

what you have explained here does NOT meet the definition of work hours, the on-call time is NOT paid. see: http://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/whdfs22.pdf

Q. Were can i start finding places were they train you for free to be a cna in saginaw michigan?
i work in this crapy place contracted by general motors i took a large pay cut becuse i finaly have the chance go to school for what i realy want to do nursing. i have been persuing to get my cna but my comunity collage needs me to have certain classes taken before i can take a cna class. still i have been seeing other questions answerd by other people that they have gotten jobs and trained strait from the nursing home or hospital they work at now how true is that? and were can i start to get closer to what i want to do instead of working for the place i want to leave.

It is true that nursing homes will train you for CNA. Instead of paying for the course, they occasionally accept an agreement from you to work there for 1-3 years w pay at their facility. If you are in IN, you can try St Anthony's in Crown Point. If you want to go into nursing, I wouldnt waste time training as a CNA. It will help with your knowledge, but no credits will be transferred. I also wouldnt waste time going to comm coll to be a CNA. There, they get extra $$ from you and waste your time making you take classes that arent specific to CNA. Seriously consider your benefits working for this crappy company. Some day you'll be serious about retirement benefits and if you're not already interested, you'll be very satisfied with good insurance coverage as well. These benefits besides others such as profit sharing can make a difference and make a crappy job look pretty good or tolerable. Good Luck.

Q. Taking care of a parent?
my mom is currently in the hospital and it does not look like she will be able to care for herself anymore as she can no longer walk. my dad is up there in age as well and physically can not do the care she needs. my mom's biggest fear has always been to be put in a nursing home. currently i am working part time, but was wondering if the state of michigan would pay me for caring for my mother if she is at home. wondering if anyone knew or knew where i could find the info at.

You could get in touch with the dept. of aging (517)373-8230. Ask for home health care services like homemaking. Homemaking is what they call it in my state. They will set you and your mother up with an agency that will determine the number of hours of care per week she will receive based on her condition. Then you'll need to go to the agency she is set up with and go through the hiring process. They will pair you up with your mother so you can provide her care. You could also get your dad in the program so that they will allow for more hours of care. This will give you more hours and increase your pay. I hope this helps. If you are still having problems e-mail me. I might be able to find more info.

Q. Caring for a sick parent?
can you get paid for caring for a parent who physically can not take care of themselves any longer if you are caring for them in their own home. i live in michigan and work part time but because of my moms condition i will have to quit my job shortly to care for her as i will not put her in a nursing home.

you would have to get paid with your Moms $ can you get FLMA from your company to take time off unpaid from your company ? http://www.employer-employee.com/fmla.html check and see if your Moms health insurance will cover round the clock nursing care if so- you could hire a CNA or LPN to care for her they would be compensated for their work since they are licensed and usually work via a agency Good luck

Q. Are they going to try and take away my 9 day old baby?
i have a 9 day old baby and i have an 8 year old child also. i live with my boyfriend and his child got taken away by the state into foster care. the mother lost custody of the child about16 months ago. she told her therapist that she was overwhelmed, about to lose her house, depressed and drank all the time and they ended up taking the 9-10 month old away. my boyfriend was in jail at the time for an old probation violation and he couldnt take his son. he wasnt my boyfriend at the time- weve been dating for a year and a half. they have been working on a case plan to get the child back and she is supposed to in october. while shes been doing good, he hasnt been able to get a job due to theres not a lot jobs in the state of michigan right now. but i take him to parenting classes each week and to see his son (we all visit-me, him and my daughter) and they came to inspect my house to make sure it was ok for him to come here. my question is...will they be able to take my baby away because he already has a child in foster care? or start a case because we are together with my children? also, i am married still to my ex (husband) and have been seperated for 3 years from him, and my new baby is in my husbands name, not my boyfriends. and i own my own house paid for in full...and im an lpn at a nursing home sorry this is long and confusing also, the foster care worker knew i was pregnant and called looking for him. i mentioned to her that i had my baby and she wanted to know his name and i was very friendly to her( im always friendly) and my boyfriend told me afterward not to trust her because shes backstabbing? we are still married and if you are still married in the state of michigan when you have a baby, the child is automatically in the husbands name. im planning to get a divorce soon- i was waiting for him to pay for it but he wont

the answer in short is no they can't take away your baby just because his son was taken away. That is a different case all together. In order for them to take away your baby they would have to find that you are providing an unsafe environment for your baby to live in. Since his son was living with the mother at the time of placement into foster care then it doesn't involve you at all.
