Hello, Why have hand brake on stroller? I was walking my dog and kept wondering about this the whole time. I have to give a presentation on this soon and I need this answer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| ![]() Powered by | ![]() Q. Can a hand brake be added to my baby stroller? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Q. I would like a jogging stroller with a swivel front wheel and a hand brake. anyone know of one? i've looked everywhere!
I'm not sure if either have a hand break, but I love the Bob Revolution stroller - it's really great For a really cheap jogger, my friend loves her InStep with swivel wheel, and it's only about $120.
Avoid Valco, since all my friends with one say the wheel sticks & drives them nuts.

Q. What jogging stroller has a hand brake and a swivel front wheel? we are expecting a baby and would like to get a jogging stroller: these are the things we are looking for:
* convertible to a newborn stroller (either with a bar that holds a baby seat, or some other safe way of securing a very young baby)
* 3 wheels that you can pump up with air
* the front wheel should swivel for better maneuvering in stores and on the bus (and get locked if needed for running)
* a hand brake on the handle for easy stop when rollerblading
it could be the behind-the-bike-trailer type, or something like bob or safety first.
thanks.
Here are some brands of jogging strollers:
Kelty
Instep
BOB
Schwinn
InSTEP
Zooper Zydeco
In general, if it has a hand brake (that's attached to the front wheel), then the front wheel doesn't swivel. Here is a photo of the only one I know of:

The other ones you would have to either have straight wheel or get a brake attached at a bike shop:

Bob Revolution has a swivel wheel but a hand brake would have to be attached in a bike shop

Q. What should i look for when buying a jogging stroller? which model is best? we love to run. we have a 7-month old, but want the stroller to last till she's 5 or so. i don't want to spend like $400 ... amazon.com has bargains, i see.
ideally, a jog stroller should have these features:
- locking and un-locking front wheel;
- hand brake
- full recline seat
- good sun cover
- some suspension (?)
- easy to fold and store in the car
- not too heavy; my wife's 115 pounds
- comfortable seat and good harness
do all these features make sense? can you recommend a great buy? thanks so much!!
First you have to ask if you are only using this for jogging. If so, a non-swivel wheel is fine. If you want to use it for walking as well, a swivel with a locking feature is great.
Features for a fixed or non-fixed jogging stroller need to be:
Reclining seat
Ample room for kids legs (baby trend does not provide this)
Sun cover (however a kiddopotamus shade that attaches can solve this)
Suspension will also come from the tires.
A hand brake is not super important unless you plan to run marathons.
The problems with joggers:
None of them fold well and fit into a lower budget.
Most joggers will weigh about 25-30lbs
You wont find a super comfy seat. Jeep just came out with a new Liberty that is the softest I have found yet. It isnt online yet, but is in most stores. It is black, gray and bright green.
Actually the Jeep Liberty, priced at $140-150, is a good choice. It will give you most of the features you want, at a good price, and is made to last until your baby is older and maybe still be passed on.

Q. All terrain or jogging stroller? i'm looking at the jeep all terrain stroller that has the lockable front swivel wheel. but, i've read that you can't use any stroller like that as a jogger unless it has a hand brake? i'm just curious if this is true, and what exactly does the hand brake do? i may do limited jogging with this stroller, but will mostly be doing walking in hills, grass, and in general rough terrain. any help is appreciated!
I have that very same stroller, and I use it for jogging. I have no issue with the stroller being without a hand break. Matter of fact, my best friend and I jog together, and she has a break on her stroller. She NEVER uses it, and even commented on she didn't know why she had it on there.
The Jeep stroller is wonderful off road or on the sidewalks. I love having it, and couldn't imagine another stroller. I walk a lot of trails (we live in a place with a lot of reserves and off-road areas), and that stroller is wonderful in doing that. And my daughter loves the toys on it, and it keeps her entertained. And our ipod works great with the speakers on it!!

Q. Have you accidentally done something that did or could have hurt your baby? i think by now, most of the world have seen the video of that baby hit by a train in australia. i don't know about you, but it makes me put the brakes on my dd's stroller whenever i take my hand off it.
are you willing to share an accident, or a close call, that happened to you, or someone you know, so that we all can be more careful next time?
mine isn't really an accident but i still feel horrible. i put a 1 yo boy i was watching (as a nanny) down for a nap, and went to the basement to do laundry. landlord visiting the house didn't know i was in there and locked the door. i had to climb out one of those tiny windows into snow and mud and fortunately the front door was unlocked... the baby was still asleep but i felt so awful!
another time, i was putting him in the car, after it just rained and i slipped in the mud and fell on my butt and he fell on top of me. nothing happened to him, i had a bruise, but i've been looking where i'm going ever since.
Car accident..basically I let the wrong person do repairs on my car on a vital steering part..the very next day ,it snapped. the car flipped, spun, went upside down in a creek..my son had a broken arm..
my other son had pulled his seat belt off,for the first time ever and I was arguing with him to put it back on at the moment it snapped..he was throw, rolled across the intersection into oncoming traffic..he wasn't hit, wasn't hurt.one little scratch on his should.he would have been crushed had he not taken his seat belt off..the roof of the car came down on my other son's head but his arm flew up over his head, his head had some serious bruises and his arm broke, but save his head.
they both came out OK..I was strapped to a board and kept away from them until they investigated and found the broken car repair that cause it and drug tested..they kept me strapped on the board until the drug test showed negative, then they let me see my son's.by then my oldest son's head was so swollen he was almost unrecognizable..some kinda bruise that fills with fluid.
after a few weeks and an arm cast he was OK and after that I didn't let their father play mechanic any more.
